Monday Edition of #currentreads

It’s been so long since I’ve done a Monday update of what books I’m currently reading, that I felt I really needed to get one posted!
So here are my current reads:
1. Carve the Mark (Carve the Mark, #1) by Veronica Roth – I’m 37% in and am really liking the story progression. The MCs are both very different in regards to position and “gifts”, but they’re both more similarly empathetic than they ever would have thought.
2. Shadow Run (Kaitan Chronicles, #1) by AdriAnne Strickland and Michael Miller – 31% into this one, and also another book I am enjoying! Though set in space in a dystopian world, the authors were still able to infuse the story with elements that channeled their Alaskan lives.
3. Strange the Dreamer (Strange the Dreamer, #1) by Laini Taylor – only 3% in, but not for lack of trying to read this. Taylor is a very whimsical storyteller, so it’s pretty obvious that her writing would be really well done; I do find myself in her thrall when I am able to read this book.
Finally, with my featured NetGalley read:
4. The Idea of You by Amanda Prowse – 6% in.

I was invited to read this one, so I’m not sure if it was one I’d have personally requested-at least, I’m not sure yet. This book is alright so far, but I’m not too sure where it’s going yet. I guess we’ll see how this one goes and whether or not I actually draw any feelings from this one.
•There we are with my current reads, and hopefully I’ll be better with posting these updates! Thanks for reading, and I’d love to hear what your current read is?

Monday Edition of #currentreads

Here we are with another Monday update of the book/s I am #currentlyreading:

.

Dead Girls Society by Michelle Krys ~ 16% in.

I just started this book, but it’s already got me hooked! I’m not sure I can stress how much I’ve been loving thrillers this year, and this one is definitely shaping up to be one!

.

Vicarious by Paula Stokes ~ I’m now 24% in, and unfortunately have not made a ton of progress since the last time I’d posted an update of my reads. But I will blame it on a busy vacation, in which I pretty much only sat to read maybe one time, due to how exhausted I’d get. So, I’ve just made it a really climatic moment in the MC’s life, which is likely when all the real action starts! Looking forward to seeing what comes next in this book!

So there we are with my #currentreads! I’d love to know what you’re currently reading and whether or not you’re enjoying it.

Monday Edition of #currentreads

Here we are with another Monday update of the books I am #currentlyreading:

.

This Is My Brain on Boys by Sarah Strohmeyer ~ I am 42% in and this one is cute so far. The MC Addie reminds me a lot of Temperance Brennan from Bones, in that she’s extremely smart, a genius really, as well as extremely literal. Her being so literal is derivative of a lot of funny moments, so I am enjoying this book so far.

.

The Women in the Walls by Amy Lukavics ~ 21% in and I’d managed to become distracted by another book that I ended up finishing (Shuffle, Repeat by Jen Klein, which I loved!!). I’m still not sure how I’m liking this one. It feels like it’s attempting to work off of psychological fear so far, but it’s just not coming across as creepy yet. Anyway, since I’m still not too far in, I’m hoping that the fear factor increases, and soon!

Monday Edition of #currentreads

This is a tad bit late, but here goes my Monday update of the books I am #currentlyreading:

.

A Drop of Night by Stefan Bachman ~ I am 3% in, and I’m not sure what I think of this book yet. I’ve barely started this book, but the MC (at least I’m assuming she is so far, since it’s told from her POV in the beginning), Anouk, sounds kind of awful. I’m not sure why her family is the way it is so far, but she’s just coming across as a rich girl who’s ‘mad at her family’ and using whatever expedition she’s been invited on as a way to get away from her family…I don’t know. I don’t know *what* I know about this book…

.

The Women in the Walls by Amy Lukavics ~ 6% in and I haven’t yet formulated an opinion for this one either. I LOVE supernatural books, so I have high hopes! There’s already been a death and a disappearance of a loved one, so it’s definitely intriguing, and as I said, high hopes, fingers crossed!

Monday Edition of #currentreads

Been busy recently, and now I’ve a cold 🤒, so I’m not sure how much more I’ll really be posting, but wanted to still do a Monday update of the books I am #currentlyreading:

.

The Sun Is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon ~ I am 21% in, and I’m really liking this one so far! I love the idea of a biracial relationship between the MCs, and more for the fact that it’s not a stereotypical Caucasian and African-American one, but a Jamaican girl and a Korean American guy…I love it! And being that Yoon herself is in a biracial marriage with a Korean American guy, she can bring authenticity to the Korean culture for Daniel (and her own Jamaican culture in Natasha’s case). 😊

.

Illuminae (The Illuminae Files, #1) by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff ~ 25% in for this one. I like it…but it still kind of bores me…I keep going back to it and reading a small bit, but then I end up setting it aside. 😕 I am going to finish it, but it’ll probably take a bit longer than usual.

.

(Not pictured):

Iron Cast by Destiny Soria (e-arc from Netgalley) ~ 13% in. STILL stuck on that 13% for maybe a month…yeah, think I’m going to have to mark this as DNF, though I will attempt to make one more stab at it before I do so.

.

Monday Edition of #currentreads

I’ve missed my last two Monday updates, had my cousin’s wedding to go in California, and was down there for a few weeks, though I did post at least one book review up on my blog during that time.

Anyway, since it is Monday and I am back home, here are the books I am #currentlyreading:

.

Something in Between by Melissa de la Cruz ~ I am only 3% in, having just started this book today. That being said, I still haven’t formed any opinion about this book, but I have been really interested in reading this to see how the author addresses one Filipino family’s illegal immigration status, and how it affects the kids, especially the MC, whose college goals are put in jeopardy when she finds out she’s not legal.

.

(Not pictured):

Iron Cast by Destiny Soria (e-arc from Netgalley) ~ 13% in. I have been stuck on that 13% for the last two or three weeks, and I’m going to attempt to work on this some more but it’s been hard because I just can’t seem to find the interest to keep reading it. But, since I want to clear it off of my NetGalley shelf, I’ll probably be putting the work in soon to see whether or not I’ll have to list this one as a DNF.

.

So there we are with my #currentreads, and I’d love to know what you’re currently reading and whether or not you’re enjoying it!

Monday Edition of #currentreads

Here we are with another Monday, and what I am #currentlyreading:

.

Lotus and Thorn by Sara Wilson Etienne ~ 22% in. I’m liking this book so far. The author infused this fantasy world with a mixture of Korean and Hispanic elements that makes for a unique, interesting feel. And how could I not be intrigued with an MC as interesting as Leica?

.

(Not pictured):

Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult (e-arc from Netgalley) ~ 37% in. I have been in love with Picoult’s books for forever, and this one is proving to be no exception! It does deal with a lot of racial injustices, but it also has you thinking about whether a person is being pointed with remarks and the like, or if you’re assuming they are because of whatever race or nationality you may be. Anyway, hope to have this book done soon!

.

The Graveyard Apartment: A Novel by Mariko Koike (e-arc from Netgalley) ~ 27% in. Just started this one and again, I can’t stress how much a fan of supernatural/horror I am, so this being an English translation of a book that already had popularity in Japan where it was originally released…obviously I had to read it! I love J-Horror!

.
